Mindfulness Based Approach to Anxiety and Wellness
This is to be an 8 week program, that is to be facilitated once a week starting September 2017
A Group for Adults
Purpose
This group is meant to support adults that are dealing with the symptoms of anxiety, using a mindfulness based approach.
Group participants will learn about their symptoms and effective strategies using a mindfulness based approach to better identify triggers, self-regulate and ultimately reduce anxiety.
Along with Mary’s extensive knowledge of a mindfulness based approach, she is also a graduate from a CYC program. Mary’s focus on central CYC themes, such as relationship and self, complement themes in mindfulness, promoting not only the development of mindfulness strategies, but an environment that fosters the development of healthy, supportive relationships.
For those not yet ready for group support, individual counselling can also be provided.
Why?
Mindfulness consists of the clinical use of meditative practice, with the goal of supporting present moment awareness – without judgment.
With growing demands on adults today, many are experiencing mental health symptoms. According to a study conducted by CMHA, in any given year one in five people will personally experience a mental health problem or illness.
A mindfulness based approach is growing as the means of supporting those dealing with symptoms of anxiety.
“Mindfulness is about living your full life in the moment without judgement. Mindfulness allows the acceptance of all parts of us. Ultimately, mindfulness allows us to live our desired truth.”
- Mary Ventrella PhD.
A Group for Young People
Purpose
This group is meant to support young people that are dealing with the symptoms of anxiety, using a mindfulness based approach.
Group participants will learn about their symptoms, and effective strategies using a mindfulness based approach to better identify triggers, self-regulate, and ultimately reduce symptoms of anxiety.
Along with Mary’s extensive knowledge of a mindfulness based approach, she is also a graduate from a CYC program. Mary’s focus on central CYC themes such as relationship and Self, complement themes in mindfulness, promoting not only the development of mindfulness strategies that can be implemented, but an environment that fosters the development of healthy, supportive relationships.
If the youth is not ready for group support, individual counselling can also be provided.
Why?
Mindfulness consists of the clinical use of meditative practice, with the goal of supporting present moment awareness – without judgment.
With growing complexity that young people face today, there has been a notable increase in psychological distress, including anxiety and depression in grades 7-12. According to a study completed by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, an increase of 24% to 34% in 2013 marks a notable increase in those being affected.
A mindfulness based approach is a vastly growing approach to supporting those dealing with symptoms of anxiety.
